Best Dog Ramps for 30-Inch High Beds

A 30-inch bed is a big climb for a dog. That’s about the height of a kitchen counter, and a lot of pillow-top and platform beds hit it once you add a thick mattress. A short ramp won’t cut it. A 40-inch couch ramp on a 30-inch bed is a 49° scramble, which is basically a wall.
To keep the slope gentle, the ramp has to get long. Here’s the math (angle = arcsin(rise ÷ ramp length)) for a 30-inch rise:
- 60″ ramp: 30° (steep, OK for young, healthy dogs only)
- 70″ ramp: about 25°
- 80″ ramp: about 22°
- 97″ ramp: about 18°, the gentle end for IVDD-prone breeds like Dachshunds and Corgis
Most bedrooms don’t have room for an 8-foot ramp, and very few name-brand wooden ramps even reach 30 inches. So here’s the honest short list: the best verified ramp that clears 30″, a step option for smaller rooms, and a well-known ramp that’s often recommended but tops out at 25″.

Measure first before you buy
- True mattress height. Measure from the floor to the top of the mattress at the spot your dog will step on. Push down on a pillow-top a little; that’s where paws actually land.
- Floor run-out. A 70″ ramp at 30″ tall needs about 64″ of straight floor. Add 18″ of clear landing space at the bottom so your dog can line up. That’s close to 7 feet total.
- Hardwood or tile? Any ramp or step can skid on a smooth floor. Plan on a non-slip rug pad or grippy furniture pads under the base.
DoggoRamps Large Dog Ramp for Bed
- 70″ walkway
- 18″ wide
- Up to 35″ tall
- 200 lb rating
- 45 lb
- Solid maple
- Made in North America
What we like
- One of the few wooden ramps that actually reaches a 30″ bed, with room to spare up to 35″.
- The 18″ walkway is wide enough for medium and large dogs.
- The 16″ safety rails are reversible, so the ramp works on either side of the bed.
- The PAWGRIP surface is soft and rubbery, and DoggoRamps says it’s easier to clean than carpet.
Watch out for
- On a 30″ bed, the 70″ walkway works out to about 25°. That’s steeper than the 18°–22° we like for dogs with back problems.
- It weighs 45 lb and needs about 64″ of floor.
- It’s a premium buy, and it was showing sold out on DoggoRamps’ own site when we checked. Look at Amazon too.
LitaiL 30″ 6-Tier High-Density Foam Dog Stairs
- 30″ tall
- 6 tiers, about 5″ each
- About 41″ deep
- Corduroy cover
- Splits into 4 + 2 tiers
What we like
- Needs about 41″ of floor instead of 6-plus feet, so it fits at the foot or side of the bed.
- Each step is only about 5″ high, a manageable hop for small and medium dogs.
- It splits into a 4-tier set and a 2-tier set, so you can reuse it for a lower bed or a couch later.
- The cover comes off and goes in the washer.
Watch out for
- It’s stairs, not a ramp. Dogs with IVDD are usually better off with a long, gentle ramp than with repeated step-ups.
- The listing doesn’t give a weight limit, so it’s best for small and medium dogs.
- The seller rates it for 30″ to 36″ beds, so it may sit a bit low on a very tall bed.
PetSafe CozyUp Bed Ramp
- 70″ long
- 16″ wide
- 25″ tall
- 120 lb rating
- Wood with carpet cover
What we like
- On a 25″ bed, its 70″ length gives a gentle slope of about 21°.
- The carpet cover gives soft, quiet footing.
- It comes in cherry or white wood finishes that look like furniture.
Watch out for
- It’s only 25″ tall, so on a true 30″ bed your dog would still have a 5″ jump at the top. Measure first.
- The 120 lb rating is lower than the DoggoRamps.
Everyday tips: floors, cleaning and setup
- Use a rug pad on hardwood. A non-slip rug pad under the base of a ramp or foam stairs keeps it from creeping away from the bed, which is the most common way dogs get hurt on one.
- Carpet vs. rubber surfaces. Vacuum carpeted ramps regularly so hair doesn’t build up. Wipe rubbery surfaces like PAWGRIP with a damp cloth and a little mild soap, then let them dry.
- Give foam time. Compressed foam stairs need 24 to 72 hours to fully rebound. Using them early can leave soft, uneven steps.
- Train with treats. Put a treat on every few feet of the ramp or every step for the first few days. Most dogs figure it out fast.

30-Inch Bed Dog Ramp FAQs
How long should a dog ramp be for a 30-inch bed?
For about a 22 degree slope, you need roughly 80 inches of ramp. A 70-inch ramp gives about 25 degrees, which most healthy dogs handle fine. For dogs with IVDD or arthritis, longer and gentler is better.
Are dog stairs or a ramp better for a high bed?
Ramps are easier on the spine and joints because your dog walks instead of hopping. Stairs take up far less floor space. If your room fits a 64-inch-plus ramp, go with the ramp. If not, low-rise foam stairs are a solid compromise for small and medium dogs.
How do I keep a dog ramp from sliding on hardwood floors?
Put a non-slip rug pad under the base, or add grippy furniture pads to the feet. Make sure the top of the ramp sits flush and snug against the mattress edge.
How long does foam dog stair padding take to expand?
Vacuum-packed foam stairs usually need 24 to 72 hours after unboxing to reach full size. Let them expand before your dog uses them.
